19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents his initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of that year.
The win also means he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.
Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour victory, took control to force a third set.
He saved 4 early opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
